Fourth annual East-West-Manu'a golf tourney tees off Saturday

The 4th annual Panamex - Pepsi East-West-Manu'a Golf Tournament tees off tomorrow at eight o'clock in the morning.
Registration time is 6:30 for three person teams in the individual stroke play format.
The first two years of the tournament were held as fundraisers for the local junior golfers program. Last year was a break from tradition as it was held to raise funds to help the men and women's teams that represented American Samoa at the XIII South Pacific Games held in Samoa last August.
They were able to raise around $6,000.
This year, its back to raising money for American Samoa's junior golf program.
"It was a good turnout last year and we raised quite a lot of money that enabled our golfers to compete at the South Pacific Games," said David Robinson, general manager of Panamex Pacific, the main sponsor of the tournament. "This year we're going to donate all the funds to the junior golf program to promote them and give them a chance to go to the mainland and compete there. The money will also be used to get them some new equipment so that we can give them as good a start as we can."
Robinson went on to say that he would "like to encourage all golfers to come out on the day and join and to have a good day.
"I'm looking forward to a good turnout and hope to raise as much money as we can."
He added that they will have mystery prizes and many others to be handed out after the tournament.
Last year's winners of the tournament were the Manu'a team, edging the East Team by two strokes, 317-319. The West scored 330.
The East Team beat out the other two for the best uniform of the day in last year's tournament, one of several special awards that will be handed out on Saturday.
The others are trophies for the individual winners' in the men and women's divisions, the longest drivers and closest to the hole.
Players who birdie holes No. 6, 8, 10, 14 and 16 can enter a draw for five special prizes. There will also be prizes for best gross and best net scores for individual teams.
Some of the winners last year included Kika Suiaunoa and Timothy Teleso for hitting the longest drives on the par-5 10th hole; Velega Savali, Emile Fanolua and Lupe won the sponsored teams competition while the individual winner was a three-way tie between Glen Lefiti, Frankie Lefiti and Pete Poumele.
Panamex Pacific is the main sponsor of the tournament while the co-sponsors are ANZ Amerika Samoa Bank, Origin Energy, Bank of Hawaii and PDL (Pacific Direct Line Ltd).
