Pulelei’ite named CEO and Interim Executive Director of ASTCA

Pulelei’ite Li’a Tufele Jr. has been appointed Interim Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the American Samoa Telecommunications Authority (ASTCA).

In an inter-office memorandum dated May 22, 2017, Pulelei’ite, as Chairman of the Board for ASTCA, informed everyone that the ASTCA Board of Directors has approved a resolution appointing him as CEO and Interim Executive Director, replacing Alex Sene Jr., “who will assume his new role as the Chief Technical Officer.”

The changes go into effect immediately.

“Your undivided support and cooperation in this regard is greatly appreciated,” Pulelei’ite wrote. Copies of the memorandum were forwarded to board members Senator Faiivae Alex Godinet, Alofagia Nomura, Tauilagi Mauga, and Omar Shalhout.

Pulelei’ite, a current lawmaker for Sua County, joins the ASTCA team after many years at Bluesky Communications, where he worked his way up to the Chief Operations Officer (COO) position.

Samoa News efforts to contact Pulelei’ite for comments yesterday were unsuccessful as of press time.

According to the Revised Constitution of American Samoa, annotated, Article II The Legislature – 2.3 Qualification of Members — “No employee or public officer of the Government shall be eligible to serve in the Legislature while holding such position. The prohibition contained herein shall become effective on July 1, 1971. Amended 1971, S.J.R.
