During a Feb. 8 executive meeting, the Chamber of Commerce board of directors selected StarKist senior official Taotasi Archie Soliai as the organization’s new board chairman. Taotasi, a former lawmaker who served as the Chamber’s vice chair last year, thanked the board and members for the recognition.

“This is an honor and I look forward to working with the Board to address the many issues and challenges facing our small business community,” Taotasi said last Thursday.

He said the board would be meeting again in a few days to discuss its priorities for the year, and he looks forward to meeting with the Chamber members to discuss its agenda.

Other new officers selected during the Feb. 8 board meeting are vice chairman — Paul Young of the American Samoa Power Authority; treasurer — Joanne Rasmussen with ANZ Amerika Samoa Bank; and secretary — Filifotu Vaai Tinitali of Bluesky Group.

The remaining members of the board of directors are Tom Drabble of Dateline Inc.; local businessman John Wasko; and Nicholas Strange of McConnell Dowell.

The new board was elected during the Chamber’s general membership meeting on Jan. 25, where business officials and representatives were briefed on the Lolo Administration’s economic development plan.
