CORRECTION

A Samoa News story on Saturday's edition says that Utu Abe Malae was the first chief executive officer for ASPA. However, Utu said that he was not the first CEO, adding that there were 2 CEOs from the states and a third acting CEO before he took over the post in the mid 1980s.

Utu said he was director of Public Works for less than 10 months before the ASPA board (under Chairman John Ward) asked him to take over ASPA in May 1986. Governor Lutali asked him to assume both roles: Director of PW and CEO of ASPA, which he did until June 1987 when he concentrated on ASPA.

Samoa News apologizes for the error.

"THANK YOU"

Dear Editor,

Although it still makes no sense at all to me, I just want to thank the person who responded to my letter. Hey, I have nothing against anyone at the PX or anywhere else, it's just so sad, that with all that happening, no one is doing anything about.

I can understand the part where, I can go in there and buy a whole bunch of stuff for anybody, then when the card holders come to buy stuff, it's all gone. But the people I would buy for will be the people who have children in the military, but cannot come into the PX because there will be too much to handle if we brought in guests???

Anyway, if you write a letter again, please make sure that you don't offend anyone by mentioning "a small store in Manu'a". Do you even know how many small stores there are in Manu'a? And if anyone in Manu'a read that letter, they would feel offended by that. Especially if there was only one store in Manu'a! All in all, we CAN get along, and I am glad that I got someone's attention on this.

Take care and God bless. Pray for the safe return of our 400th CSP Army Reserve Unit. Hooah!!!

"LONG OVERDUE"

Dear Editor,

I totally agree that the Lt. Governor should step down. As I said before, ever since his 'quiet' arrest by the FBI, he has never formally addressed the people of American Samoa about this issue.

It's absolutely ridiculous. It's like nothing ever happened! With all the corruption that's been going on, the argument about innocent until proven guilty is getting pretty old right now.

The real issue here is protecting the integrity of the office he holds and his duty to the people who put him in office. I can't even fathom that he's running for office again.

As someone else said, is this the type of message that we're sending our children, the other Pacific island nations, and the world? If he truly cared about the people of this island, he would have done the right thing already and stepped down!
