"THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME"

Dear Editor,

The DOE annual Music Festival held this past Saturday at the Samoana gym was a celebration no one on the island should have missed. Dedicated to the upcoming Festival of Pacific Arts, it was a beautiful reminder of why we HAVE arts festivals in the first place. From the opening notes, through the many tributes to other island cultures, I was reminded of the reasons the rest of the world romanticizes the Pacific- because it deserves to be so.

There are few things more joy-filled than Samoan choirs breaking into natural harmony. There are few things more invigorating than a 'Siva Samoa'. There are few things with more natural energy, more life-affirming happiness than Samoan music, sung with spirit and heart.

I found myself smiling all day from the experience. I can hardly wait for the Festival. It will be a feast of great performances; the euphoria will be palpable, and real. If the Music Festival held on Saturday was an indication of things to come, we are all in for the time of our lives.

My heartiest congratulations to the Music Festival co-ordinators, to Dr. Poumele and her staff, to Aumalo Manupo Turituri, who is also a member of the Festival Board, and of course, to Mr. Francis Lealua, who does a tremendous job each year encouraging our students, and bringing the music of Samoa to the people.

Sincerely,

Music Fan

"POST OFFICE DIDN'T TELL THE WHOLE STORY"

Dear Editor,

Thank you for a quick reply in regards to my question on forwarding mail. Yet I am not one to just accept something if I feel it is not correct. So I did my own research.

Postmaster McMoore is correct in one aspect, yet we are not hearing the entire set of options. You can find this information on USPS.com, or contact any post office and inquire about forwarding services and premium forwarding services.

What the postmaster is talking about is called PFS (Premium Forwarding Services) which requires an enrollment fee, and a weekly fee. They are two different services, and people should be aware of that. Premium Forwarding Service (PFS) is a domestic service for residential customers. With this service, USPS forwards ALL of your mail from your permanent address to a temporary address. Your permanent address does not change and your temporary address is not provided to mailers. There are other features and benefits of PFS. As for regular mail forwarding, there is no fee.

A change of address (COA) form only needs to be submitted, and mail will then be forwarded free of charge. If the COA is done on line it's a $1.00 fee. I hope someone can inform the other postal workers that there is a difference. So in fact when the postal worker told me on Saturday that there is no charge for forwarding mail, he was correct. I guess we were talking about 2 different things. Maybe this would be helpful. Thanks Again,

Signed,

Home Sweet Home
