Stallions win in comeback fashion

The Kanana Fou Stallions overcame a 3-0 deficit to win 4-3 over the Tafuna Warriors in a comeback victory of the ongoing 2011-2012 ASHSAA Girls Soccer competition on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012.

The win, coupled with a Fa’asao-Marist Cougars 2-1 loss to the Leone Lions, moves the Stallions into third place while the Cougars drop to No. 4.

The third match played at Kanana Fou Theological Seminary saw the Faga’itua Vikings beat Iakina Adventist Academy 3-0.

A succession of scores saw the Warriors jump ahead 3-0 in the first half but the comeback started in that period with Kanana Fou Hillary Puletasi and Lornalisa Sagapolutele scoring to make it 3-2 going into the break.

Sagapolutele’s second goal equalized the score at 3-3 before Makreita Agatonu’s game- winner sparked off a huge celebration on the Stallions’ sideline.

VARSITY STANDINGS

Faga’itua’s win over Iakina puts them in a tie with Samoana points-wise with 15 each from five wins and no losses.

Both teams will put their undefeated records up against one another when the Vikings take on the Sharks tomorrow at Pago Park Soccer Stadium. Tomorrow also marks the end of the competition’s first of two round-robins.

Samoana takes the No. 1 spot by way of differential in goals with 18 to the Vikings 13.

The Stallions (6 points) are third in the standings, followed by the Cougars (6 points), Lions (3 points), Warriors (3 points) and then Iakina (0 points).

Kanana Fou edges the Cougars in the differential of goals with -2 to -7 while Leone holds that tiebreaker over Tafuna with -4 to the Lions -7.Two other varsity games will be played tomorrow at Kanana Fou Theological Seminary with Iakina taking on Leone and Kanana Fou playing against the Cougars.

JUNIOR VARSITY STANDINGS

Tafuna leads the division with 7 points, followed by Samoana with 4, Faga’itua with 3 and the Lions with 0.

Faga’itua takes on Samoana tomorrow in the final game of the J-V’s first round.
