Togiola departs Territory for meetings in DC, SFO and SEA

(BASED ON A PRESS RELEASE) — Governor Togiola Tulafono departed the Territory on Sunday night for annual meetings in Washington DC. In the nation’s capital, Togiola will take part in the US Coral Reef Task Force meetings, which begin this Thursday.

On Friday, the Governor will join the Democratic Governors for a morning meeting with President Barack Obama at the White House, and in the afternoon will join Pacific  island governors for the winter meeting of the Pacific Basin Development Council at the Hall of States..

On Saturday, Togiola will attend the annual three-day winter meeting of the National Governors Association, which includes a black-tie dinner for all governors to be hosted by President Obama and First Lady Michelle at the White House.

On Monday, Feb. 27th, Governor Togiola and Mrs. Mary Tulafono will again join the nation’s governor and their spouses and return to the White House for meetings — the governors with President Obama, and their spouses to meet with First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden.

On Tuesday, Feb. 28th, Togiola will take part in the annual Interagency Group on Insular Areas meeting to be hosted by the Department of the Interior at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building next to the White House.

On Thursday, Mar. 1st, the governor will be in San Francisco to attend the annual Federal Regional Council meeting. While in the City by the Bay, he will meet with FEMA and U.S. Department of Labor officials, attend a climate change presentation by Stanford University scientists, and go on a tour with directors of marine sanctuaries.

On Saturday, March 3rd – Togiola will be in Seattle, Washington to visit Samoan soldiers and airmen at Fort Lewis and McChord Air Force Base. He will attend a church service on Sunday with Samoan military personnel and their families, and meet and visit with the soldiers and airmen on Monday and Tuesday before returning to Honolulu on Wednesday, Mar. 7th.

The governor will return to American Samoa on Thursday, March 8th.
