Hope House fundraiser draws great community support

The Hope House Fundraising Golf Tournament held last Saturday at the Iliili Golf Course was called by organizers one of the best to date.

”In view of the current situation with the economy, we were very happy with the support and contributions from the community,” Hope House Director David Robinson told Samoa News.

“We had 40 plus teams that participated in this year’s tournament. It was one of our best tournaments as far as turnouts go,” said Hope House Board Member, Representative Larry Sanitoa. “We printed only 2,500 raffle books and it looks like we are going to get very close to the number of books we printed. That, along with the number of teams that participated this year has been a real blessing. I want to thank the government, Governor Togiola, leaders of the Fono, and the different government agencies for their great support, as well as  the support of our business community”.

“These are very difficult times and yet, we see with that number of teams participating, that are a lot of business people out here supporting this wonderful cause.”

Sanitoa went on to say that the money that was raised at the tournament will be given to the Dominican Trinity Sisters to support the operation of Hope House.

“The House is twenty-five years old now and it takes a lot to maintain. It has been a great blessing to us,” he said.

Director of Hope House as well as Chairman of the Tournament Organizing Committee, David Robinson told Samoa News, “This is the third annual golf tournament that we put on as a fundraiser for Hope House, with the purpose of encouraging community support for the facility, which is the only one of its kind on island that provides this sort of service to the elderly and terminally ill." He noted that Hope House also has a Montessori child care center with nearly 80 children.

“On behalf of Bishop Quinn and the Board of Directors of Hope House, and my organizing committee, I would to thank everyone who has participated, everybody in the community and everyone who has contributed,” he said.

The Diocese of Samoa Pago Pago and its various parishes participated either by sponsoring teams, volunteering to help with the tournament or donating food items. Raffle prizes included round trip airline tickets and cell phones, while team prizes included golf bags, iron sets, drivers and putters.

“Our thanks go to the major sponsor, GHC Reid, as well as to Impex Pacific, Hawaiian Airlines, Polynesian Airlines, Inter-Island Air, ACE American Industries, and BlueSky, all of whom supplied our tournament with terrific raffle prizes. KS Mart Golf Shop provided us with marvelous golf equipment for our team and individual prize winners,” said Robinson.

The total amount of money raised by the tournament was not available at press time, but will be noted later this week, according to Robinson.
