CNMI authorities still cannot locate former governor

The former governor of the Northern Marianas, Benigno Fitial, still hasn’t received his penal summons.Earlier this month, the Superior Court issued the summons calling for him to front the court to explain himself over allegations that while governor he helped a former attorney general, Edward Buckingham, flee the territory to avoid being served a summons for abuse of power. But Mr Fitial left the territory shortly after resigning as governor, and authorities have no idea where he has gone. Our correspondent, Mark Rabago, says the summon orders him to appear on the first Monday after receiving it but the courts aren’t actively trying to find Mr Fitial. “The courts are focussing first on the accused that are here on the island which are former deputy commissioner Ambrosio Ogumoro and his so called cohort in escorting former attorney-general Edward Buckingham.”Mark Rabago.
