Samoa celebrates life of popular DJ, businessman, family man

The celebration of the life of Raymond Lamont Fruean drew hundreds of relatives, friends and colleagues to Vaoala and Vailima yesterday.The businessman, popular DJ and husband to Pauline Fruean passed away last Thursday. He was 46.Yesterday’s farewell was guided by the theme “Everybody loves Raymond.”Among the mourners was the Head of State, His Highness Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, the Masiofo, Her Highness Filifilia Tamasese and Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi. Also present was a strong representation of the business community in Samoa.Ray’s brother and Chief Executive Officer of Digicel, Fiaailetoa Pepe Fruean said his family’s “faith was severely tested” when his brother passed away.“Why would God take some so kind and beautiful so soon?”Aitken Fruean, the eldest of five children born to Asi Aitken and Mary Fruean spoke of the shock that came with his brother’s passing.“I recall that fateful day like it was yesterday,” he said. “When I got to the hospital I was taken aback, I couldn’t believe it, it was absolutely mind blowing seeing you lying there, seeing your beautiful wife crying over you, the grief and anguish that came over me was beyond belief.”Aitken recalled the first day he saw his brother.
