Hope House 4th fundraising golf tourney set for tomorrow, June 29

The Fatu-O-Aiga Hope House will be holding their fund raising golf tournament tomorrow and will also bid farewell to the Most Reverend Bishop Vaopunimatagi John Quinn Weitzel, who heads the Diocese of Samoa Pago Pago and will be retiring soon.

Hope House Administrator David Robinson said that this year’s tournament is bittersweet in that “this year will be the last time that Bishop John Quinn Weitzel will be with us. He will be retiring soon and we would like to make sure that this will be a tournament to be remembered for him, as we look forward to keeping in touch with him in his future retirement, wherever he chooses to go.

“He (Bishop Weitzel) has been a pillar of strength in terms in looking after the interests of Hope House (formerly Nazareth House), which was first commissioned by the Sisters of Nazareth. He has been there all the time. He has been a great supporter. He has pushed us along as he has done different things behind the scenes that have enabled us to run the house to provide these services to the community… over the last 25 years,” he said.

The Hope House Administrator noted that “the main purpose for the tournament is to raise money to continue to provide services that we provide through Hope House to the community in terms in looking after the elderly residents, the terminally ill children, the day care and the Monastery room, which is attached to the house .”

Robinson said, “It is becoming very, very difficult to make ends meet, as expenses are going up and revenues are coming down and that is not a good situation to have.”

Noting that the fund raising tournament this weekend (tomorrow, June 29), is the fourth one to be held for Hope House, he said, “We always get a lot of support from the community and we are hoping for the same this year.”

The Hope House Fundraising Golf Tournament’s major sponsor is Vailima, distributed exclusively by G.H.C. Reid & Co., Ltd. ‘Oloa O Leala’ — Your family of Beverages.

The golf tournament event also includes a “Great Hope House Raffle” with donated prizes from ACE American Industries, Bluesky Communications, Polynesian Air and Inter Island Air. Raffle tickets are still available. (See advertisement in Samoa News for contact numbers, as well as for more information on the tourney.)

A round trip ticket to Hawai’i has also been donated by Hawaiian Airlines and is a part of the golf tournament prize list, which includes golf bags, iron sets, drivers, putters, and other great prizes.
