FC SKBC edges Pago Youth A 4-3 in thriller

SKBC has taken command of Pool A after a thrilling, 4-3 win over powerhouse Pago Youth A during Round 4 of the men’s 2013 FFAS President’s Cup tournament on Nov. 16 at Pago Park Soccer Stadium.

 

The win puts them six points clear of three teams — Utulei Youth, Pago A and Lion Heart — for the coveted, No. 1 spot for the group with only three rounds to go.

 

In other Pool A games on Nov. 16 it was Utulei 3, Lion Heart 1; PanSa 1, Vaiala Tongan 1 while Vaitogi United was idle with a bye.

 

In Pool B games it was Taputimu Youth 1, Tafuna Jets 0; Pago Youth B 3, Black Roses 1 and Atu’u Broncos 9, Green Bay 0 while Ilaoa & To’omata had a bye round.

 

POOL A

 

SKBC, current National League champs, took a commanding lead behind gunslinger, Gun Kang, who completed a hat trick in a span of six minutes, giving his team a 3-0 lead.

 

Five minutes into the match and Kang netted his first goal, four minutes later he made it a brace and then completed his hat trick two minutes after scoring the second goal.

 

But Pago A, a four-time National League champion, did not panic as Ryan Samuelu put his team on the board in the 19th minute. In the 33rd Alatina Vaiali’i cut the deficit down to one for a 3-2 showing going into the break.

 

Samuelu tied the game in the second half during the 45th minute, 3-3, but with six minutes to go Thamer Alshehri provided the game-winner for SKBC.

 

SKBC leads the group with 12 points, followed by Utulei Youth, Pago A, Lion Heart (in order of a differential in goals) with six points each. Vaiala Tongan is fifth with two, Vaitogi is sixth with 1 and PanSa rounds out the group in 7th place with 1 point.

 

Only the No. 1 team in the group advances to the championship game against Pool B’s top seed on December 14, 2013.

 

POOL BIlaoa & To’omata and Taputimu Youth are tied with seven points each to lead Pool B with the former getting the edge for the No. 1 spot in terms of differential of goals, 9-8.

 

These two teams atop Pool B will duke it out this coming Saturday in a fight for sole possession of the No. 1 seed.

 

Atu’u is third with five points, also edging Pago B for the No. 3 seed because of the goals difference (9-0) tiebreaker.

 

In fifth place is Black Roses with four points, followed by No. 6 Tafuna Jets with three and Green Bay sitting at No. 7 with 0 points.
