Xmas Xtras: Grand re-opening for Manu’a Store

Manu’a Store in Malaeimi, the first and original location of the local three-store chain, will officially re-open its doors tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. and everyone is invited to come out and join the celebration.

Business owner Manu’a Chen told Samoa News yesterday that his staff is working around the clock to unload several containers of items that include Christmas decorations and lights to clothing, shoes and tons of fabric.

Manu’a’s Malaeimi location was completely destroyed last year on Sept. 21 when a fire swept through the structure and burned it to the ground.

After more than a year of rebuilding, the store will finally be open for business once again tomorrow morning — just in time for the holiday rush.

The entire back wall of the building features rows upon rows of fabric — the largest selection on island.

Walking through the aisles, one will notice the huge assortment of merchandise, from clothes and shoes to accessories, fans, luggage, floral items, and holiday decorations — Manu’a- Malaeimi can definitely be likened to stateside stores based on selection.

The baby section includes everything for newborns, infants and toddlers. Baby bottles, toys, booties, onesies and bibs line the aisles while the selection of infant and toddler clothing vary from inexpensive brands to famous urban gear including Rocawear, Apple Bottoms, Ed Hardy, Disney, and Hello Kitty.

Artificial flowers are abundant, in addition to school supplies, linen, housewares, kitchenware, toys, bingo supplies, hats, and beauty products.

NFL fans won’t be disappointed, as Manu’a- Malaeimi has in stock car seat covers and key chains depicting the name and logo of their favorite team.

With the grand re-opening tomorrow, Manu’a will have three convenient locations to serve you - Malaeimi, the Tafuna Industrial Park, and the Pago Pago (MHJ Bldg). All three stores are jam packed from floor to ceiling with items for people of all ages.

Manu’a and his wife Michelle were seen yesterday with their workers setting the stage for tomorrow’s grand opening event.

The couple told Samoa News they would like to thank everyone who offered them help when their store burned down last year.

“We are truly thankful to the Samoan community for their words of encouragement and the numerous offers of help,” Manu’a’s wife Michelle said yesterday. “Kindness like this can only be found here in American Samoa and that’s why we hire local people to work in our stores. We love the Samoan people.”

While pointing to his heart, Manu’a said the outpouring of love and sympathy they received after their business went up in flames was truly touching.

Currently, the Manu’a stores employ over 100 people.

Manu’a, himself, comes from a highly successful local business family.

His parents Perry and Jane Chen are immigrants, who have resided in the territory since the 1970s and they are the owners of two “Tutuila” stores (located in Fagatogo and Nu’uuli), a household name for everyday items.

The couple’s three children — named after the three main island areas of American Samoa — Tutuila, Aunu’u and Manu’a are business owners too. The older sister, Tutuila, owns a store in Leloaloa and the younger brother Aunu’u owns a store in Tafuna, at the former location of CSL.

Stop by any one of Manu’a three locations to get everything you need this holiday season, and throughout the rest of the New Year.

There’s something for everyone at each Manu’a Store location: the territory’s one-stop-shop.
