Kalilimoku Hunt, an American Samoan, has created the ultimate survival guide for stay-at-home parents — a book for dads approved by moms.

It started when “Kalili” decided to stay at home and go to school; he started documenting all the things his kids started doing that were making life difficult. He said via email to Samoa News, “I thought to myself there has to be an easier way to do this. So I reached out to other ‘moms’ and got feedback if this was normal…”

Hunt said, “My kids are covered in flour and sugar, my truck is a mess, I memorized the Spongebob song from watching it everyday, I’m always busy trying to juggle school, family and kids and I got the same feedback from everyone I reached out to.”

He ended up compiling a bunch of horror stories from other dads about the crazy things their kids do and he put it in this book so that the next dad or parent can hopefully learn from it and if not then at least they will find it entertaining and funny.

Kalili, an Air Force Veteran, went viral for his book on social media and has been interviewed and aired both in Phoenix and Las Vegas for being a stay-at-home dad.

“My main goal was to write a book that was fun with practical advice for any parent to enjoy. I wanted to break the gender barriers that ‘only moms can be stay at home parents’ and ‘only dads can provide financially’,” he said.

In 2005 the US Census Bureau reported there were 98,000 stay-at-home dads nationwide; today, that number is closer to 2 million and climbing. Whether it’s the flagging economy or a simple sign of more modern times, a growing number of men are deciding to stay at home with the kids and let their wives deal with rush hour traffic and casual Fridays.

Kalili shared how growing up in Auto also helped him. “I’ve included in the book that growing up in the village of Auto with amazing parents shaped me into the father I am today. Being a parent is not easy, being a stay-at-home parent is not easy either. I work from home so I consider myself a full time dad.”

Fotu Misa, who grew up with Kalili in Auto, said in an interview with Samoa News, “Being that he is the only boy, he was always with his dad. I remember them doing church visits together, and especially service in the community. Emulating his father has in no doubt given him the inspiration to be the great dad that he is today.”

According to Kalili this book is full of laugh-out-loud moments and heart felt stories that all parents can relate to. It’s full of dad-bits, it’s a collection of horror stories from other stay-home dads. It’s an everyday guide to help the stay-home parent manage their home, stress-free. It’s a book approved by moms.

Kalili teamed up with publishing company Mascot Books to help get this book published. The goal is to have the book out to the public by Father’s Day. He said, “It’s a great book for stay-at-home parents, parents, and more importantly fathers.”

He said, “The only challenge at this point is to make the deadline which is Father’s Day. However long it takes us to reach our goal plus the production and distribution of the book could take a few months. If we get this book funded as soon as possible we can make our deadline.
