Election Office invites voters to register at Samoana

by Samoa News Staff

The Election Office is taking voter registration to Samoana High School with the hope of getting all qualified students to register to cast ballots for the Nov. 4th general election.

Election officials also want to make sure that seniors graduating this year who will be enrolled at off-island colleges and universities register in order for them to vote absentee.

Chief Election Officer Soliai Tuipine said voter registration is between 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 8 at the school cafeteria and all other eligible voters are welcome to stop by to register.

Deputy Election Officer Filiva'a Mageo said the registration at Samoana is happening at the same time with the school's parents and teachers association meeting also set for tomorrow afternoon. This way, parents, who have not registered to vote can do so, he said.

During a recent voter registration as Tafuna high school, the Election Office was able to register several parents either as new voters or re-registered voters because their names were purged from the election roll due to failure to vote in the last two elections.

"We are timing these school registrations with PTA meetings to get as many possible as possible to register," said Mageo, who noted the registrations at high school and ASCC campuses have been very successful.

Services provided at Samoana campus includes voter registration (must have valid U.S. passport or birth certificate, social security card or verification and a government I.D. card including military ID); voter ID replacement and the name change of a voter, in which a marriage certificate or other legal documents are required.
