A.I.G.A Foundation
donates football equipment to high schools
by Brian Vitolio
A.I.G.A Foundation
founder George Malauulu and fellow member and former resident
Hans Langkilde Jr. helped solicit football equipment for the
local high schools that were handed out this past Tuesday at
Veterans Memorial Stadium.
All six high
schools with football teams - Faga'itua, Leone, Samoana, Tafuna,
Fa'asao/Marist and Nu'uuli Poly-Tech - were the lucky recipients
of shoulder, thigh, knee and hip pads, mouthpieces, jerseys and
pants and also first aid kits.
The equipment
was sent to the Samoa Bowl Committee and Melila and Moana Purcell
handing it out to the schools. Shipping was paid for by the
American Samoa Government, according to Melila Purcell.
Malauulu and
Langkilde have been in contact with the Purcells in orchestrating
the receiving and distribution of the equipment.
Included in this
shipment was baseball equipment that Purcell said he had already
given to Victory Langkilde, young brother to Hans and a member
of the local Little League Association.
But this is not
the end of the line for equipment, said Purcell.
Alema Te'o ---
he created the All Poly Camp in 2001 - is "getting ready
to send more stuff," Purcell said.
"He left
me a voice mail saying that he is in the process of soliciting
equipment and I sent him an e-mail as of today (Tuesday) replying
to him," Purcell said. "We are hoping that it gets
here before the June Jones Academy (June 28)."
