Two rounds
left in men's pool games of Flag Day v-ball
by Brian Vitolio
There are two
rounds remaining in the regular season of the men's pool games
in the ongoing Island Wide Volleyball Club's Flag Day League.
So far the top
three teams in Pool A are comfortable in front and have solidified
a top four finish. In first place is Le Tanoa of Malaeloa with
a 6-0 record, half-a-game better than the LBJ Spikers who are
in second with a 6-1 record. In third is Fealofani Boys #1 with
a 5-1 record, a full game behind LBJ Spikers.
The fourth and
final top four slot from Pool A is in the hands of Fagatogo Power
#1, but they have to win their last two games to fend off Ava
Boys (2-4), Manu Folau (2-4) and Aunu'u Riders (2-3).
In Pool B, USO
is far and away the best team with a perfect 7-0 record. In second
place is Fealofani Boys #2 with a 5-1 showing while Mata'ava
Boys (4-2) is third and Manu'ula Heat #1 (3-4) fourth.
Ali'i (2-3),
CBT (2-4), and Lauli'i Spikers #2 (2-4) are still in the hunt
for a playoff spot. The top four teams each from the men's pools
advance to the playoffs while the top four from that group goes
on to play in the Flag Day tournament. There are nine teams
each in Pool A and B.
In the women's
contest previously unbeaten Mata'ava Motion A lost for the first
time in the regular season, losing in three sets to Teinesuluie
last Saturday to muddle up the standings with four teams tied
for first place. Manu'ula Heat, Mata'ava Motion A and B and
Teinesuluie all have 3-1 records.
On the outside
looking in for a playoff berth are Petesa-tai Youth (2-2), Fagatogo
Power (1-3) and Fiailoa V-Ball Team (1-3).
Games are held
daily from 4 p.m. and all day Saturdays at the Samoana High School's
gymnasium.
