"HELLO
THERE FROM ARIZONA"
Dear Editor,
I just returned
from a fabulous trip to American Samoa. I went for the Flag Day
festivities, and it was beautiful. The Island, the people, and
just everything else. I loved it all. My fiancee is from the
village of Fagatogo and I had the pleasure of meeting all of
his family in the different villages on the Island. Thank you
to all whom greeted us with open arms, and a warm welcome...Faafetai!

"OUTRAGED
AND DISAPPOINTED"
Dear Editor,
I'm writing to
express my outrage and disappointment in our judicial branch.
Here was the one branch of our government I had hoped would stay
true to their name and responsibility, alas, even they have followed
suit with the rest of our government.
My family recently
went through a court case regarding our matai title "Iuli"
from Tula, and guess what, they awarded it to someone who isn't
even family. No blood, no nothing!
He lives on his
family land "Pu'atuua" and we live on Iuli land, and
have for as long as anyone alive can remember, and yet our court
system decides for him and not us. I guess because he is supported
by Salanoa, (who by the way wanted to pass the bill where you
don't have to have any blood ties to the title to be awarded).
I'm one of us
that was born in American Samoa, raised off-island but have since
returned to live. I can't see myself not living on our beautiful
island, but I am disappointed time and time again.
Our court system,
at least in my mind, is not taking the whole picture in to consideration.
I see a lot of trouble coming our way and that was not my hopes
and dreams for my family and I, upon returning home.
American Samoa,
we have to soon "take the bull by its horn" and let
our leaders and people know that were sworn in by the bible that
they must do their jobs right!
Election is coming
up; let's think twice, three times even four times before we
put our mark next to the candidate we want to entrust with our
lives.
Thank you and
May God have mercy on us all.
Regards,
Pae Saipaia Lualemana
"ABSENTEEISM"
Dear Editor,
The future here
is that the fiber cable will bring in call centers hiring thousands
of workers to answer the calls and type on computers. Will American
Samoa be ready for them?
If you did not
know, call centers around the world work on "around the
world time," that means just because it is 3 a.m. here,
the rest or the world does not stop working. And so do call centers,
they are 24/7, day and night, rain or shine, NO holidays (holy
days).
People that live
in big families take off work for lot of reasons here; if you
check ASG records there are a high number of absent workers,
but because they are overstaffed they handle the workload or
the taxpayers do without the service or maintenance needed to
operate this government which is not a profit making organization
like a business, either there is profit or you fail!
Will American
Samoa be prepared?
