Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Two brothers were arrested last week on the allegation that they damaged a store in Ottoville and assaulted employees.

Bryant Faavae (B.F) and his 17-year-old brother, who is named in the court affidavit as C.F made their initial appearances in court last week.

Each defendant is charged with 3rd degree assault and property damage in the 3rd degree.

Bail is set at $1,000 for each defendants.

THE CASE

It was around 11p.m on Sept. 5th, 2020 when the owner of an Asian store in Ottoville contacted the Tafuna Police Substation (TPS) to report that two males were disturbing the peace at his store by throwing a rock that shattering his store’s window.

Several police officers responded to the call and met up with the owner of the store who briefed them on the alleged incident.

According to the store owner, two of his employees who were named in the court affidavits as victims 1 & 2 informed the two brothers that they couldn’t buy beer since they didn’t have identification (ID) to confirm they are 21 years of age or older.

Out of anger, B.F picked up a rock near the store and threw it at the window, shattering it. As victim 1 opened the door to confront him, B.F grabbed victim 1 by the neck and threatened him by stating that he is going to kill him if he didn’t back off. B.F then pushed victim 1 forward causing him to fall down. That is when victim 2 engaged with B.F because B.F was in a fighting stance.

B.F threw punches at victim 2’s face, while victim 2 responded by throwing his own punches at B.F. At the same time, victim 1 was trying to fight off co-defendant C.F by exchanging punches too. As all four men engaged in a fight, C.F then broke away from victim 1 and ran towards victim 2 who was fighting with his brother B.F and punched victim 2 multiple times until victim 2 fell down.

By the time victim 2 got up, both defendants were assaulting victim 1 by throwing punch after punch at his face until they got him down on the dirt road next to the store. While both defendants continued to assault victim 1, victim 2 who had just got up grabbed a stick and hit C.F several times to break up the fight because victim 1 was getting beaten up by both suspects.

Both defendants fled the scene after the assault.

On the following day, Sept. 6th around 8:45a.m, several police officers proceeded to the scene for a follow up investigation. After interviewing bystanders at the store, an unknown male informed officers where the two suspects live. Officers proceeded to the suspects’ residence and found them there. Both suspects were apprehended and were transported to the TPS for questioning.

B.F, an 18-year-old was booked and detained at the TCF while C.F, 17-years-old was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
