Latest storm updates: ASG workers off and HAL flight cancelled

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — “Due to severe adverse weather caused by a Tropical Depression (TD09 F) passing approximately 100 miles south of American Samoa,” Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga has released all non-essential government employees today from work until further notice.

This according to a local Homeland Security bulletin released after 9:30am. today, Thursday, as winds in several areas of Tutuila peaked up to 50 mph, accompanied by heavy rain.

The governor says that all departments and agencies are instructed to have at least one person on duty to staff their respective offices.

However personnel performing First Responder duties or involved in emergency operations are to stand by for instructions from their respective department/agency leaders or the ASG Emergency Operation Center.

Residents are advised that the adverse weather can cause difficulties in operating vehicles on the roads and highway.
HAWAIIAN AIR FLIGHT

Hawaiian Airlines spokesperson, Alex Da Silva has confirmed the cancellation of the airline’s flight between Honolulu and Pago Pago for tonight, Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020 “due to adverse weather conditions” in American Samoa.

“We are offering our guests travel on the next available flights or the ability to modify or cancel their reservations,” he said this afternoon from Honolulu.

The adverse weather is the result of a tropical depression near American Samoa causing high winds and heavy rain.
