Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — ASG Treasurer Malemo Tausaga, in a brief statement yesterday afternoon, announced that the sixth batch of tax refunds — more than $750,00 — is scheduled for release today, Thursday, Apr. 1st.

And it’s not an April Fool’s joke.

“Remainder of taxpayers who filed on Feb. 2, 2021 and numerous filers on Feb. 3, 2021” with mailing addresses will receive their checks in the mail today, says Malemo.

Taxpayers without mailing addresses can pick up their checks at theTreasury Disbursing Office on the ground floor of the A.P. Lutali Executive Office Building — where social distancing and wearing a face mask is encouraged.

A total of 390 taxpayers are covered in the 6th batch of fund checks.

Of the total of $751,991 in tax refunds, $287,400 is paid from locally collected funds and $464,591 is from the Additional Child Tax Credit, which is funded by the US Internal Revenue Service.

If you are expecting a tax refund and did not receive it, visit the Tax Office and have the following documents on hand so that the Tax Office can provide service expeditiously:

•           copy of your tax return

•           a valid form of identification

•           social security card — and also for the spouse if married filing jointly.

Release of Batch #6, is welcomed by those expecting refunds, with tomorrow, Friday, the Good Friday holiday, heading into Easter Sunday, as the money will be helpful for shopping.

Even before the official announcement came from Malemo, word have already spread late yesterday morning, through the coconut wireless and other means of communications, that refunds checks will be distributed today.
