New medical boat advances healthcare across the territory
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Governor Pulaali’i N. Pula christens the new medical boat during the Department of Health (DOH) special Christening Ceremony at the Fagatogo Marina. The ceremony was attended by Governor Pulaali i Nikolao Pula and First Lady Lois Phillips-Pula, President of the Senate Tuaolo Manaia Fruean, along with distinguished guests, members of the Fono, and Cabinet officials.
In his special remarks, Governor Pulaali'i praised the Department of Health and its partner, Industrial Gases, for their achievement and commitment to advancing equitable healthcare across the territory. "The primary goal of this emergency medical vessel is to significantly enhance DOH's ability to respond rapidly to medical emergencies in our most remote and underserved areas, especially in Manu'a and Aunuu," said Governor Pulaali i.
DOH ARPA Project Manager Adrienne Savusa also addressed the crowd, expressing deep appreciation for the continued support of both current and previous administrations that have contributed to this important milestone in public health.
The vessel is equipped to deliver timely emergency services and essential medical supplies throughout the territory, addressing longstanding challenges in accessing healthcare in distant island communities. Governor Pulaalii concluded his remarks by congratulating DOH and all partners involved in making this vision a reality. He acknowledged the vital role of funding provided through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), which made this project possible.
