Apia, SAMOA — The government of Samoa is in the process of claiming back unused leased land for re-allocation to others on the waiting list.

Letters have already been served to people leasing government land at Aleisa but not using  all the land.

These people applied to lease 50 acres of land but it has been found that only 5 acres have been developed and the rest unused.

ACEO of the Land Management Division with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment MNRE Manumaleuga Filisita Heather said there is a long waiting list of people desperately wanting to lease government land for development and this is why government is taking this action.

“ There is a long list of people who want to make good use of the land,” Manumaleuga told Newsline. “ The list is growing.”

Manumaleuga said  in some of these cases the lease has not been paid for many years and recovering those arrears would be something that they would be working on.

Manumaleuga did not say how many families are involved.
