Bluesky Communications has partnered up with the Department of Youth and Women’s Affairs for Youth Month, which is being celebrated all during July.  Kicking off the month was a Wave on Tuesday morning in Utulei, while the next big event will be on America’s birthday, Friday, the 4th of July.

Bluesky has donated $15,000 to DYWA, specifically toward the cost of the fireworks on the 4th.

Bluesky CEO Aue’e Adolpho Montenegro said, “Certainly it’s in line with our commitment to serve our community and I want to thank our customers for allowing us to continue to do this on their behalf.”

“Our contribution today …reflects our 15 year anniversary and it’s a $15,000 donation towards the cost of bringing the fireworks to American Samoa,” said Aue’e.

Bluesky’s Country Manager Lewis Wolman, said for Bluesky’s anniversary, they will have deeper discounts and much more for their customers.

Receiving the donation was DYWA Deputy Director Pa’u Roy Ausage who thanked the company on behalf of Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga and his administration.

Pa’u told Samoa News that $80,000 is the approximate cost for the fireworks, including permits.

BACKGROUND

According to the proclamation signed by Lt Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga on behalf of the administration, nearly one-third of the American Samoa population (approximately 18,000 American Samoans) is comprised of young people between the ages of 16 and 35.

“American Samoa’s most valuable resource is its people including our youth, upon which we rely as vital community assets and resources, having their unique knowledge, ideals, skills, perspectives, ideas, and creativity, that contribute to their respect, service, advocacy, and philanthropy.”

The proclamation designates Friday, July 4, 2014 as Youth Day, and the month of July as Youth Month, in the Territory of American Samoa.

Last year was the first time the American Samoa Government proclaimed July as “Youth Month.”
