The Home of the Stallions – Kanana Fou High School graduated 58 senior students, who were recognized and accepted by Department of Education Deputy Director Philo Jennings, on behalf of the DOE Director Dr. Vaitinasa Finau Salu Hunkin, during yesterday morning’s commencement exercise at the Kanana Fou Theological Seminary at Kanana Fou.

The ceremony was jam packed with families and friends of the graduating class of 2015.

The posting of colors kicked things off for the Stallions program, which was followed with welcoming remarks from school principal, Sinaita'aga Gaoteote-Tufele.

Addressing the grads, she noted, "You've just completed four years of high school… where you were required to learn, here at Kanana Fou – now you are required to further go on… to higher education, or to find full-time jobs, or whatever you persist to do in life… The celebration of your graduation, is the celebration of your hard work, and patience,” adding that “we love perfection, we love satisfaction, we love sophistications… I promise you, all will be found, if you have a higher education."

Special Remarks were to be offered by Dr. Vaitinasa Finau Salu Hunkin, DOE director, but she was unable to attend as she is in Manu’a in order to prepare for their high school graduation ceremony, set for today.

Perhaps the highlight of the commencement exercise for Kanana Fou’s graduating class of 2015 was the introduction of the twins, who took top honors overall — Class Valedictorian, John Scanlan was introduced by Class Salutatorian James Scanlan. Side note: John is the elder of the twins.

Keeping it short and sweet — the Class Val sent out his appreciation to his "family, who've loved and supported me and my brother throughout our years in high school. God loves us so much he gave us loving parents who prepared us in the mornings and dropped us off at school everyday. I'd also like to thank all my teachers, the principal and staff of Kanana Fou for all the memorable years. Thank You."

The presentation of graduates was lead by Rev. Iakopo Seumalo and accepted by the DOE Deputy director.

Award announcements included recipient of a scholarship from McDonald’s American Samoa, for Rabunzel Leo, a National Honor Society student.

Anamnesis Muasau, also a National Honor Society student, received the Rotary Club American Samoa Award.

All 58 graduating members of Kanana Fou High School were awarded a Congressional Award from the Office of Congresswoman Aumua Amata.

The Female Athlete of the Year Award was given to Fatatrina Ala, and the Male Athlete of the Year Award was given to LBJ Va'afuti.

Kanana Fou High School's Teacher of the Year award was given to SFC Kodaro Ala, the Head of the school's JROTC Department.
