$1.5 million in fed transportation funds for Am Samoa
Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is welcoming notice of nearly $1.5 million in Fiscal Year 2022 in federal funding for transportation.
Specifically, American Samoa will receive $1,488,150 in funding through Federal Transit Administration (FTA) formula programs this year. These include funding from both the Mass Transit Account of the Highway Trust Fund, and advance appropriations provided by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act).
“I supported the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law when it was under consideration because it made investments in our roads, ports, airports and broadband in several ways,” said Congresswoman Amata. “Congratulations to Governor Lemanu Mauga, Lieutenant Governor Talauega Ale, and thank you to the U.S. Department of Transportation.”
Under the law, a total of 30 DOT programs average increases of 58 percent to improve the focus on modernization of national infrastructure. Today’s announcement includes $20 billion nationwide.
“Every day, transit connects millions of Americans to jobs, schools, groceries, hospitals, resources, and countless other opportunities – all while helping to reduce pollution, congestion, and traffic,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in the nationwide announcement. “Now, thanks to the President’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we are making the largest investment in public transit in our nation’s history.”
