Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is highlighting availability of upcoming federal funding of over $1 million for fiscal year 2022 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

FEMA notified Members of Congress of $405 million nationwide in pre-award determinations for state and territory governments for the Emergency Management Performance Grant program.

American Samoa’s allocation is $1,048,551, of which $919,100 is the yearly allocation and $129,451 is the supplemental. The current formula was established by the Post-Katrina Emergency Management Act of 2006.

“This program provides funds for emergency management capabilities and preparedness for possible hazards,” said Congresswoman Amata. “Uses in general include planning, operations, equipment, training, exercises, construction or renovation. Thank you for all the effort that goes into the required grant process to ensure ASG gets its allotted share.”

Although pre-determined, the state and territory governments must submit an initial application by June 6, through Grants.gov. FEMA will notify them to proceed with submitting their complete application package in the Non-Disaster (ND) Grants System by the application deadline.

Congress set aside $355 million for the program in yearly appropriations, then added $50 million late last year in the Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, which made the available funds a higher than usual amount. FEMA plans to make these awards by the end of September.
