Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The fourth round of Economic Impact Payments (EIP), or stimulus checks, totaling more than $2 million is being distributed today, Sept. 11th and it’s expected to cause a traffic slow-down in the town area.

In a brief statement yesterday morning, ASG Treasurer Ueligitone Tonumaipe’a announced the distribution of the 4th round of EIP checks as part of the federal Coronavirus Aid Relief & Economic Security (CARES) Act.

“A total of $2.4 million will be released to 1,854 eligible recipients,” he said.

According to the Treasury, all eligible recipients who filed taxes between July 1st and Aug. 19th should expect their stimulus check in the mail on Sept. 11th — today — if a valid mailing address was included in their filing.

For those without a mailing address, stimulus checks will be available for pick up at the Treasury’s Disbursing Office on the first floor of the A.P. Lutali Executive Office Building in Utulei.

“If you were expecting your stimulus check and did not receive it, please do not hesitate to call or visit the Tax Office where they may assist you,” said Tonumaipe’a.

Stimulus checks are issued from the ASG account with the Territorial Bank of American Samoa, which is expected to be crowded with people cashing their checks.

Individual qualified taxpayers get $1,200 under the EIP, while it’s higher for those with children and/or married.

Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga has said that the EIP checks have “injected $34 million directly into the territory’s economy.”
