Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Some lucky taxpayers will have some extra money to celebrate the 2023 graduation season in American Samoa.  ASG Treasury announced yesterday the release today, Friday, June 2, of more than $3 million in tax refund checks for Batch #8.

ASG Treasurer Malemo Tausaga said in a brief statement that a total of 985 taxpayers who filed on Feb. 28 to partial of Mar. 07, 2023 — for tax year 2022 — will be getting their refunds through direct deposits, the U.S Post Office and pick up at the Treasury’s Disbursing Office on the ground floor of the A.P. Lutali Executive Office Building (EOB) in Utulei.

Of the total of more than $3.31 million for Batch #8, Treasury says that just over $1.59 million is funded with local revenues; $536,016 for the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) and more than $1.18 million in the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

ACTC and EITC portions of tax refunds are federally funded.

Treasury says that if you are expecting your refund and did not receive it, please call (633-4181) or visit the Tax Office — the ground floor of the EOB — for further information and assistance.

The latest tax refund batch comes just in time as graduation season — both elementary and secondary schools — is in full swing, starting with private schools and with public high school graduations in the coming days.

And parents expecting tax refunds are thrilled that this extra income will help them financially during graduation season. Samoa News had the same happy reaction from three stores contacted about the latest tax refund release.
