Adopt-A-School program gears up for start of the new school year
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The government’s sponsored Adopt-A-School Program is set to carry out a clean-up for all public and private schools during the week of Aug. 21 to Aug. 25, prior to the start of the new school year.
Lt. Gov. Talauega Eleasalo Ale, in his capacity as acting governor, issued a memorandum last week to cabinet members about the Adopt-A-School Clean-up and included the list of 41 public and private schools for which ASG authorities, departments and agencies are responsible.
“The Adopt-a-School Initiative has proven to be a successful program that has brought positive changes to our educational institutions,” Talauega wrote in the memo.
“By adopting a school, we not only take responsibility for its upkeep but also become actively engaged in fostering a conducive environment for learning and growth,” he pointed out.
He urged each cabinet member to designate time for their respective departments to participate in the clean- up and rehabilitation activities at their adopted schools.
“This is an opportunity for all of us to come together, work hand in hand with teachers, students, and community members to make a tangible impact,” he said.
According to Talauega, all ASG authorities, departments, agencies will maintain their previously adopted schools.
“The Governor and I appreciate your continued support and commitment to the future of our Territory through the education of our children,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Lemanu-Talauega Administration is again allocating $100,000 under the Special Program, administered by the Governor’s Office for the proposed new fiscal year 2024 budget for this long-running government sponsored program.
Gov. Lemanu P. S. Mauga informed lawmakers that the Adopt-A-School program has been an ongoing initiative by the governor to foster partnership between the government and community to provide assistance to the schools through clean up, providing much needed supplies for school activities as well as sharing resources and other important functions.
