All daycare facilities closed after measles case detected in territory

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — At a press conference called late yesterday afternoon, DHSS director Muavaefa’atasi John Suisala advised local media that DOH director Motusa Tuileama Nua has confirmed that a positive case of measles has been identified in the community.

He said DOH is taking immediate action to contain the outbreak and prevent the spread of the disease by ordering the immediate close of all daycare facilities in Amerian Samoa.  Effective Apl 20, 2023 and until further notice, all daycare facilities are closed to all children.

All pareants are reminded to make sure their child’s immunizations are current that the the Child Care Office has  a copy of their most current vaccination card.
