Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The remaining travelers on the Jan. 27 flight from Honolulu quarantined at Tradewinds Hotel were released this past Sunday afternoon after all of them tested negative for COVID-19, according to the latest Health Department data.

According to DoH information, a total of five separate rounds of testing were carried out for travelers and quarantine staff relating to the Jan. 27 flight, resulting in a total of 43 new positives  cases comprising 35 travelers and 8 quarantine staff.

“Historical positives” — those who previously were infected with the virus 60-days prior to departure — stands at 35 cases. And this is the first time since ASG began repatriation flights in February 2021 followed by resumption of limited Hawaiian Airlines commercial flights from Honolulu last September that quarantine staff from DoH tested COVID-19 positive and it’s the highest number of new infections in incoming travelers.

Meanwhile, DoH is set for the next flight from Honolulu on Feb. 17 — which as of Monday this week had an estimated 285 travelers. Quarantine sites to be used are: Tradewinds, Fatuoaiga and the new Airport Quarantine Facility — inside the Pago Pago International Airport premises.

Quarantine for this flight is for 14-days and three separate rounds of tests will be administered for the travelers.

As for inter Samoa flights, they remain suspended as of yesterday morning, with DoH recommending suspension of these flights during weeks when there is a flight from Honolulu.
