All Public Schools closed Thursday and Friday — severe weather

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — In a new development after 6pm yesterday, the Education director Dr. Ruth Matagi-Tofiga, announced that  ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS from K to High School will BE CLOSED today, Thursday and Friday due to the severe change in the weather.

All school Administrators and staff (teachers) report to their respective schools.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service in Tafuna issued, after 5p.m. yesterday, a new high wind warning for American Samoa due to damaging winds associated with Tropical Depression 09F northwest of the Samoans island.

Forecasters expect northwest winds of 25 to 40 MPH, with higher gusts.

Authorities have advised the public to be cautious and be prepared, as these strong winds can cause tree branches to break and even trees to fall, and power lines can be damaged as well.  The strong winds can cause difficulties in operating your vehicles on the roads and highway and extreme precautionary measures are advised.

The public is advised to tie down and secure loose items around properties and homes.
