Alofau’s elementary school earns six-year WASC accreditation
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Tautalatasi Tuatoo Elementary School (TTES) in Alofau is proud to announce that it has been awarded a six-year accreditation term by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), a recognition that reaffirms the school’s commitment to educational excellence and continuous improvement.
This six-year accreditation represents one of the highest honors granted to educational institutions and serves as a powerful affirmation of school’s dedication to providing high-quality learning experiences that nurture students academically, socially, and emotionally.
WASC is the accrediting body that evaluates public and private schools across the United States, Asia, and the Pacific. Its mission is to recognize institutions that demonstrate the capacity, commitment, and expertise required to deliver effective teaching and learning while continuously engaging in meaningful school improvement.
The accreditation process is both comprehensive and rigorous. Schools are carefully assessed against established standards that include leadership and governance, teacher qualifications, instructional practices, student engagement, and academic achievement. Accreditation is granted only after a thorough evaluation confirms that these standards are consistently met.
For TTES, this achievement validates the school’s sustained efforts to provide a high-quality education and reinforces confidence among families and the wider community that the school is committed to long-term excellence, strong student outcomes, and effective school management.
School leadership emphasized that this milestone reflects the collective dedication of the entire TTES community. Teachers, students, parents, staff, and community partners have all contributed to what they describe as a shared “village vision” focused on preparing students for success in any pathway they choose.
On behalf of TTES, sincere appreciation was extended to the Director of Education, Maefau Dr. Mary Lauagaia Taufetee, and the WASC team—Dr. Paulson, Dr. Morrow, and Juan Flecha—for their unwavering support and guidance throughout the accreditation process. Their commitment and expertise were instrumental in helping the school achieve this significant milestone.
Looking ahead, TTES will continue to build upon this achievement, strengthening its commitment to research-based instructional practices and sustained school improvement. The accreditation not only recognizes current excellence but also serves as a foundation for continued growth and success.
Tautalatasi Tuatoo Elementary School is now fully accredited through 2032.
