Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata is passing on an important clarification from the U.S. govrnment that the $1,200 coronavirus relief checks from the CARES Act include seniors who receive Social Security and no longer work.

“The main thing is to have a Social Security number,” said Aumua Amata. “Adults who have Social Security numbers are eligible, unless they have those higher incomes above the limit. The good news is that most people do not need to do anything. The government will send the check based on their most recent tax return and mailing information.”

“I want to say thank you to President Trump for this important decision to make the relief checks automatic for our Social Security seniors as well,” continued Congresswoman Amata. “Congress intended these funds to be a real help to as many people as possible in a time of need, so that was the right administrative decision based on the bipartisan CARES Act, and it was decided without unnecessary delay.”
