Washington, D.C. — Last week Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed a grant for American Samoa Community College for the American Samoa No Wrong Door Initiative, an assessment of long term care, services and access factors in light of COVID-19. This $300,000 grant is from the Health and Human Services (HHS) Department’s Administration on Community Living (ACL).

“Thank you to Tafaimamao Tua Tupuola, who directs ASCC’s University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, for her efforts on this project,” said Aumua Amata. “Congratulations to ASCC upon this grant award, and all who will be involved in this program on behalf of our people. This is a wonderful project to inform health and policy decisions for our islands.”

The American Samoa No Wrong Door (NWD) initiative (https://nwd.acl.gov) intends to cover the entire territory with an assessment in response to the COVID-19, social isolation, and transition of care.

This discretionary grant is in connection with ACL’s Aging and Disability Resource Centers (https://acl.gov/programs/aging-and-disability-networks/aging-and-disabil...) program.

“Thank you to HHS Secretary Alex Azar, and ACL Administrator and Assistant Secretary for Aging Lance Robertson for this federal support,” Amata concluded.
