Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata released a statement to veterans of Afghanistan, and a reminder of ways to access any needed mental health or counseling resources:

“Many of our friends and family members from American Samoa have served in Afghanistan over the past 20 years. You’ve fought in war, worked to stabilize and train, helped children and families, conducted humanitarian work leading to health care and schools, and much more. We’re all deeply saddened and troubled by the sudden loss of life and freedoms in Afghanistan. I want to send our love, respect and deep appreciation to all who served in Afghanistan. You did much good in people’s lives. I have had the opportunity to visit our Service Members at in the Middle East at bases supporting Central Command, Iraq and Afghanistan, and know your dedication. We pray especially for the Americans and allies who are still trying to leave, for those who will draw notice as pastors, missionaries, teachers or any kind of local leader there, and for all the people of Afghanistan.”

To all our Veterans of any era, please remember you have resources available (below) as you need them. Please be aware and take note of any changes or patterns in your life, such as sleeplessness, despondent feelings or unexpected anger, and know you can talk to someone with training. Since we have Veterans all over the nation, I’m including all these resources, and some of them should be available wherever you are.
