Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Uifaatali Amata released the following statement in honor of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick:

“Congress today honored the life of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick. This week, he lay in honor in the U.S. Capitol. We are saddened by his loss, and thankful for the life he lived.

“In remembering his sacrifice we also honor those who served with him in protecting the U.S. Capitol, in the danger and chaos on January 6th and every day. These brave officers are a blessing to Members of Congress, the staff, and the people of the nation. Like Officer Sicknick, they stand ready to protect and respond on behalf of others, and in patriotic service to the United States.

“Years ago, my father served as a Capitol Police Officer, and he witnessed the lasting changes that followed a tragic shooting at that time. This generation of Capitol Police will be forever affected by the violence of January 6th, and the loss of Officer Sicknick in the heroic line of duty.

“We pray for his family, for those who served with him, and for unity for the nation. May God bless the Capitol Police, and the United States.”
