American Samoa makes bid to host 2029 Pacific Mini Games
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Officials of the Pacific Games Council, which oversees the Pacific Games, spent last week in American Samoa to review sports facilities in the territory, in connection with its bid to host the 2029 Pacific Mini Games.
The president of the council and the chief executive held meetings with the American Samoa National Olympic Committee, the acting Governor, Fono representatives and sports organizations.
They also inspected sports facilities.
The Cook Islands is also making a bid to host the 2029 Games and a selection is to be made at the Games Council meeting in Palau in October.
Introduced In 1981, the first South Pacific Mini Games (now called the Pacific Mini Games) to enable smaller nations to host the games. The Pacific Mini Games is a multi-sport and a scaled-down version of the main Pacific Games and is similarly rotated on a four-year basis in the intervening years between the main games.
American Samoa hosted the games in 1997.
