Arrest made after a 45-year old man was beaten to death Friday night

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — A man in his 20s was taken into the custody of police over the weekend after the  beating death of a 45-year-old man from the village of Sailele.

Senior police officers at the Central Station confirmed this with Samoa News as efforts to get official comments from the Acting Police Commissioner Vaipuna Foifua Jr Foifua were not answered as of press time.

A Senior police office says the investigation into the case continues and that officers have been at Sailele since Friday night when the incident occurred.

They were also sent to Sailele on Saturday morning to gather more witnesses’ statements in relation to the incident. 

Witnesses told police the man was part of a group of people gathered in Sailele when the incident occurred. It’s unclear whether alcohol was a factor. Calls for official comments were not answered as of press time.
