Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata welcomed a federal grant notice last week of $67,893 from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) dedicated to maternal and child health services in American Samoa.

The grant, awarded by the Department’s Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), will be directed to the American Samoa Government Department of Health to support maternal and child health services from 2023 to 2025.

“Ensuring early, high-quality, and consistent care for mothers and children stands as a fundamental cornerstone of public health,” remarked Aumua Amata.

“It is imperative that we take steps to enhance these services, ensuring the prosperity of both future generations and the women nurturing them into this world. Thank you especially to Seiuli Elisapeta Ponausuia for her efforts and leadership in this program.”
