Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — After issuing his Christmas message to the Territory, Gov. Lemanu P.S. Mauga had a Christmas gift for ASG workers — Tuesday, Dec. 26, has been declared a government holiday. 

In his Christmas message the governor said, “Christmas is a time of reflection, gratitude, and the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, whose teachings continue to inspire us to love and serve one another.

“It is a season that brings people together, transcending differences and fostering a sense of unity and goodwill. In Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV) we are reminded of the significance of this season: “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

“This verse reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas – the birth of Jesus Christ, a symbol of hope, peace and love.

“As we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, may his teachings inspire us to show kindness to one another, to uplift those in need, and to foster a sense of unity that strengthens our territory.

“As we reflect on the challenges and triumphs of the past year let us move forward with renewed hope and determination to build a brighter future for American Samoa. Together hand in hand, we can overcome any challenges that may lie ahead.

“On behalf of First Lady Ella Mauga, Lieutenant Governor Talauega E. V. Ale, Good Lady Marian Ale, and our families, we wish you all both here and abroad a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

“May the Prince of Peace bring you and your loved ones joy, peace, and an abundance of blessings; and may the light of His love guide us in the coming year.”

And for ASG workers on Tuesday — employees who are not required to perform essential services shall be excused from their duties.  While employees required to perform duties on those days will receive holiday wages in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
