Boyfriend allegedly punches girlfriend’s glass door

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On August 27, 2025, a man called the Tafuna Police Substation (TPS) regarding his daughter’s boyfriend, who allegedly punched the glass door at their home, causing it to shatter into pieces.

The suspect was later apprehended and charged with:

Count 1: Trespass, a class B misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to six months, a fine of up to $500, or both imprisonment and fine;

Count 2: Property Damage in the Second Degree, a class A misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to one year, a fine of up to $1,000.00, or both; and,

Count 3: Private Peace Disturbance, a class C misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to fifteen days, a fine of up to $300, or both.

The defendant’s bail was set at $2,000.

Court records revealed that on Aug 27th, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Schcymindaran Naidu (later identified as the suspect) allegedly punched a glass door, causing it to shatter into pieces. The investigation of the incident revealed that the victim estimated the replacement cost to be around $300.

Police officers responded to the call, and upon arrival at the scene in the village of Mapusga, they were waved down by a man who was later identified as the reporter and victim.

At the scene, the suspect was observed with the victim’s daughter, wrapping his left hand with a cloth due to the bleeding sustained from the glass door.

Mr. Naidu was placed in a police unit and transported to the TPS for further investigation.

Authorities interviewed the victim at the scene, who identified the suspect as his daughter’s boyfriend. The victim claimed that the suspect was dating his daughter, but due to prior incidents involving the suspect (stealing), he had been banned from their property.

The victim explained that the land belongs to their matai and that the matai had instructed him that the suspect was no longer allowed on the premises.

The victim reported that at about 4:00 p.m., the suspect arrived and was talking with his daughter outside their residence. He approached Naidu and used hand gestures to direct him to leave, as the suspect is deaf and mute. The victim claimed that Naidu responded with hand gestures indicating threats to assault him and to leave him alone.

The victim continued that Naidu then walked to the front of the residence and punched the glass front door, which caused the glass to shatter into pieces. At this point, he contacted the TPS for assistance.

Upon arrival at the station, the suspect was treated for his injuries by EMS. It was also noted that the suspect is both deaf and mute.

Naidu was booked and confined at the Tafuna Correctional Facility, to await the next available sitting of the District Court.

The affidavit also stated that the suspect has a prior history with the law and is currently a person of interest in ongoing theft cases.

The defendant is identified as a 29-year-old citizen of Fiji.
