Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The Health Department has continued this week, the health advisory alert for the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) outbreak, while the Department of Human and Social Service’s Child Care Division also continues the closure of all childcare centers and family childcare homes as well.

The DHSS posted its extended closure notice on its Facebook page over the weekend. “We appreciate your understanding and support with protecting the health and safety of our community, especially our children,” the notice said.

In its latest health advisory issued yesterday, DoH said it was extending the RSV advisory alert this week and that ASG is taking steps to slow down the spread of infection with the continued closures of daycare centers.

Anyone with flu-like symptoms should avoid going out in public — including going to school or reporting to work — and should stay home until symptoms subside.

COVID VACCINATION

As for COVID-19 vaccinations, the health advisory said vaccinations continue this week at designated sites. Additionally, COVID-19 vaccinations will once again be temporarily available at selected schools this month.

First, second, and booster vaccine doses will be offered.

A couple of reminders:

1.         Parents or legal guardians of children ages 5 to 17 years old must be physically present with their child at the COVID-19 vaccine site.

2.         School based COVID-19 vaccine sites will be open also to community members or neighborhood families requesting the vaccine.
