Deadline to apply for American Samoa ocean exploration expedition
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The deadline to apply to join the American Samoa ocean exploration expedition is now extended to Jan. 29, 2024.
Two ocean exploration expeditions are being planned for the summer of 2024 with Ocean Exploration Trust, the National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa, and partners working closely together to map and explore the deep sea biodiversity of American Samoa.
The team seeks students and early career professionals to sail aboard EN Nautilus, gaining hands-on experience in ocean exploration and serving as STEM role models for the next generation.
Community College or undergraduate s learn about the ocean hands-on with paid ocean science, underwater technology (remotely operated vehicle engineering), or broadcast media (video systems engineering) themed internships.
No prior at-sea experience is required! Advance your skills and apply learning from the classroom as a key part of the team at sea for -2 weeks on a deep ocean exploring expedition in waters around American Samoa working alongside mentors and experts in the field.

• ROV engineering interns learn to maintain (using hand tools) and operate the team of remotely operated vehicles as they fly and collect samples from along the seafloor.
• Video systems engineering interns learn to operate camera controls for the ROV's video systems and work with a team in the operation and maintenance of all video systems aboard Nautilus.
