Dedication delays traffic, containers stuck at port

Traffic from the west heading east towards Fagatogo last Friday morning was diverted through the main dock — as seen in this Samoa News photo — starting after 6a.m, as the east-bound lane in front the Museum was closed for the safety of participants and others during the two-hour Sogelau monument dedication ceremony.

The lane-closure caused a slow-down of traffic heading into the town. Some motorists complained of being stuck in traffic for more than an hour trying to get to work in Utulei, Fagatogo and Pago Pago.

During the diversion of traffic into the dock and exiting on the side near the inter island dock, there was no movement of usual busy port activities on a Friday with a container vessel in port. After 12noon, the usually port activities started, with the setup of the Customs’ scanning truck for containers.

(Samoa News is currently waiting for its newsprint container to be released by Port and will not be printing for at least two days. A pdf - electronic issue will be published as per our norm and available through a subscription via our main office or website: samoanews.com)
