Dedication of new downtown facilities is moved to this Thursday
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The Jean P. Hayden Museum extension, the Fagatogo Pavilion, and the new DPS fitness center were all scheduled to be dedicated this Saturday, Aug. 31st as part of the 6th Annual Workforce Day, sponsored by the American Samoa Government.
But plans have changed. Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga announced last Friday during the cabinet meeting that the dedication ceremony for all three projects is moved to this Thursday, Aug. 28th, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Museum. Attendees will then head over to the DPS fitness center (behind the new Fire Station) and lastly, the Pavilion, which has been the center of protests launched by Fagatogo residents.
Workforce Day, according to Lolo, will proceed as planned on Aug. 31st, with “everyone” expected to participate. This year, it will be hosted at the Malaeoletalu (for the first time ever). Workforce Day has always been held at the Veterans Memorial Stadium in Tafuna.
Lolo told cabinet members that the festivities will kick off in the morning and everything should be done and dusted by noon.
