Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — In a notice last week, the Health Department’s Environmental Health Services Division reminded Food Catering & Delivery, Bakeries, Baked Goods, Fast Food and Cooked Food Businesses about the required health permits as well as local labeling laws.

“For any baked goods or cooked food sold at our local stores, without a valid health permit, all such products will be confiscated and condemned immediately and citations will be issued,” according to health officials

Furthermore, without proper labeling of such items, it will lead to food items being seized and condemned.

The DoH notice comes amid some complaints from consumers, received by Samoa News, questioning baked goods and cooked food sold at local stores. A store owner said last Friday that some of their customers have even questioned the safety of mushibi and other cooked food delivered by local vendors.
