Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is welcoming an upcoming grant for Pago Pago International Airport from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) totaling over $17.8 million for runway rehabilitation.

 “This is great news for our airport, which is a key link to the United States, and I’m delighted to be able to highlight and welcome these important funds,” said Congresswoman Amata. “Congratulations to Governor Lemanu Mauga, Lt. Governor Talauega Ale, and Port Director Chris King.”

Congress has been given official notification of this discretionary DOT grant, specifically $17,819,676, for this American Samoa Government project, from Fiscal Year 2022 Appropriations passed by Congress in March.

 “More details will be released from DOT and FAA soon, but for now, I want to thank Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and FAA Administrator Steve Dickson for this extremely helpful federal support,” concluded Amata.

“Our Pago Pago International Airport has one of the longest runways in all of the Pacific Islands, and regular maintenance projects are essential to keep our air travel safe, reliable, and strategically capable for the largest aircraft,” she said.
