Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Local businesses took advantage last week of the ERC Group’s visit to American Samoa where the Group shared information on the federal Employee Retention Credit program and solicited for enrollment in their assistance program. The ERC Group is headquartered in Hawaii.

The Group's media officer Kit Barnhill said her team was grateful for the opportunity to meet with more than 50 businesses on the island.

These meetings took place during brunches, lunches, and private gatherings at local restaurants in American Samoa last week.

The Team also met with the Am Samoa Department of Commerce.  "July 20, we were asked by the Department of Commerce to come by and share information about The ERC Group and the program,” Barnhill said.

On the same day, "July 20 the visiting team held an event, for the American Samoa Business Owners' Appreciation Night and ERC Workshop, which was a huge success, with over 80 attendees."

Ms Barnhill said, "This gathering served as both a social event for businesses on the island and an opportunity to raise awareness about the last COVID relief fund and recent IRS warnings.

"Throughout our stay, we made it a point to explore and connect with various parts of the island, embracing the culture and trying out the delicious Samoan food in local restaurants.

"It's heartening to note that our presence has had a positive impact.

"Many business owners initially expressed skepticism due to an influx of constant callers, but we are determined to show them that we are genuine and are proud to partner with Strategic Tax Planning, a CPA Licensed firm.”

Tina Azaravand JD, the Group’s tax manager explained why businesses should look at claiming the ERC.

"As a small business owner, who has been affected by the pandemic, you may be eligible for a COVID-19 refundable tax credit known as the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERC).” Funded by the CARES Act and originally crafted to encourage employers to keep employees on the payroll as businesses dealt with the effects of COVID-19, payrolls with up to $26,000 per W-2 are eligible, she said.

You can reach the ERC group at a local number, (684) 258-1479 or visit their website by clicking on their ad on this page.
